My first camera, a folding Kodak, was foolishly left on a beach blanket in California and was swallowed up by the Pacific Ocean. I was only twelve years old at the time and didn't understand that the shoreline is constantly changing. Just like everything else.

Photography is my way of trying to hold back the tides of change. I press the shutter button and time stands still. A fraction of a second endures forever. Writing? It takes a bit longer, and I wish I could say that after decades of trying I have finally got the hang of it. Sadly, I have not. But I keep plugging away, because I do believe there are stories that need to be told, things that should not be forgotten, characters who should never die.
